Here is a list of some
of the most commonly asked questions.

s
 | Can Crystal Ease run under
Terminal Server/Citrix? |
Although this was never tested and Crystal Ease was not
specifically designed to run under TS/Citrix environments
there are customers that are running Crystal Ease
successfully with Terminal Services and/or Citrix.
In some cases, the key was to actually burn the
installation files to a CD-ROM and run the installation as
the Administrator from the Control Panel > Add/Remove
Programs
In another, it was necessary to copy the richtx32.dll
and richtx32ocx from the
C:\Win\system to the C:\Winnt\system32
and manually register them.
It is also important to make sure that whichever users
that will need access to the application, have access
(full) to the applicable ...\Program Files\Surfing Gecko
Software and ...\Program Files\Common Files\Crystal
Decisions and\or ...\Program Files\Seagate Software...
folders on the server.
Note: As this was never an
officially tested or designed environment, support for
this will be limited to our best effort. With
existing users running under this, it should only be a
matter of isolating the rights/access to the files.

 | "Invalid TLV
record" what does
this mean? |
This error could be caused by many reasons.
Typically it is a Crystal Reports errors that is
indicating there is a problem with the report itself or
there are files missing required by the report.
In our experience this is most typically generated when
viewing a version 9.x Crystal Report report file (.rpt)
with Crystal Ease 2.0. This version of Crystal Ease
is not compatible with version 9.x Crystal Reports files.

Most commonly, this error is generated if an incorrect
Release Code has been purchased. For example
purchasing a Crystal Ease 2.0 Release Code will NOT work
with Crystal Ease 3.0
Be sure when you are purchasing a Release Code that you
are purchasing for the version of Crystal Ease you are
using. See the Crystal Ease splash screen or Help
|About for your version information.

 | Will Crystal Ease work against
an AS400 datasource? |
Crystal Ease itself does not make a data connection.
Rather the Crystal Reports report file (.rpt) makes the
connection to the data source. Crystal Ease is
merely a container or vehicle for the report.
Having said that, If you can create a report against
the database and the proper client files along with
Crystal Ease are on the machine you should be fine. AS400
included.
Note: As it is impossible to test
against every datasource, there may be times when Crystal
Ease will not work against your datasource. We have
not had any reports of this thus far however.

 | Is there a way to stop the
database prompt? |
At present the database login prompt will appear a
minimum of once per report/sub report in a single viewing
session. There is not a setting to turn this
off permanently. In order for a report to retrieve fresh
data, a data connection is required and part of the
report opening process is a check for the existence of
data and a retrieval of the connection information less
the password*.
If the report does not contain saved data when
initially viewed, a data connection is required and thus a
prompt will be displayed.
If the report contains saved data when first viewed,
the logion prompt will not be presented until the report
is refreshed as this is when the connection will be
required.
Any subsequent refreshes of the report will not prompt
as the connection information is stored dynamically for
that session.
*Note: Crystal Reports does not store
(embed) the password in the report file (.rpt) structure
itself as a matter of security.

How can I reset the
printer from the default? |
Most likely due to the default properties being set in
the report (.rpt) itself. The report will actually store
printer information that was in the report's printer
settings at creation time.
After opening the report in the Crystal Reports designer
check File > Printer Setup
Is 'No Printer' selected? If it is, deselect this,
then deselect the 'Default Properties' option to
avoid having the report use default properties - in case
the report is not using default settings.
Another thing could be if the report itself was saved with
the Default Properties option checked in the Printer Setup
for the report. The report itself does indeed store the
printer information from the dev machine.
As a final step, it may be necessary to strip the printer
information out of the report. This can be done in Crystal
Reports by going to the Printer Setup;
1. selecting 'No Printer'
2. saving the report
3. closing the report
4. open the report
5. go to Printer Setup
6. deselect No Printer
7. ensure the orientation is set
8. ensure Default properties is not selected
9. Save and exit

At present there is no way to suppress the database
prompting.
Crystal Ease will prompt for database credentials for
the main and any sub reports when first opening if the
report(s) does not contained saved data.
If the report has saved data, it will only prompt on the
first refresh of the report
The prompting will only occur once per viewing session.
